Museum’s popular children’s activities

A ‘bug hotel’

There’s been a familiar sound of excited children in the Museum!

Familiar because, every time they have been held, the school holiday craft activities have proved a big success with the younger visitors (and their accompanying adults!).

This time round it’s A Summer of History, with activities based around artefacts that can be found in the Museum.

So the first week saw lots of youngsters learning how to make colourful yarn stick sculptures of all shapes, sizes and designs. It encouraged children to consider how natural materials can be used to make fun, eco-friendly art.

This was followed by building ‘bug hotels’ to encourage all manner of creepy crawlies to take residence.

There’s a break this week (due to workshops being held) but the fun returns with making dinosaur bones out of clay and later on there will be Puppets of the Past.

The cost is just £1 per participant (booking ahead is important) and the activities are mainly aimed at under-16s.

Running alongside these fun events are FREE trails on various themes, encouraging children to explore the Museum for hidden clues.

A Summer of History is on Tuesdays-Fridays 10.30am-2.30pm. Check the Museum website for all the details.
