Three new additions have been added to Horsham Museum & Art Gallery’s Medieval section thanks to the Friends.
Two intricate and delightful posey rings were acquired as part of the Friends’ continuing support for the Museum.
There is also a nummular (pertaining to coins or money) brooch, dating from the 13th Century, which has been created from a Gros Tournois coin from the reign of King Louis IX of France.

All three objects were discovered locally and were obtained via the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
The brooch is silver but gilded on one side bearing a cross.
Posey rings are sometimes known as Posie, Posy or even Poesy rings and are gold, with an inscription.
One reads ‘Remember the Absent’ while the other has ‘Rather dy then faith to deny’.
Museum Curator Nikki Caxton has written a blog, providing more details on all the objects.
All the objects are on view in the Museum, Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm, free entry.
