How about these amazing Roman glass bottles and colourful fragments!

These were mainly found in the London area and collected by the influential Lucas family who lived at Warnham Court and were prominent in the 19th Century.

In fact, a large amount of Roman glass is still around which shows how popular and affordable it was.

The Roman glass industry began around 50BC and flourished for many years.

It became even more popular once glass-blowing was invented as this method proved quick and efficient.

The highly decorative Roman glass is known as Millifiori glass, which is Italian for ‘thousand flowers’.

The process uses bundles of thin glass rods of different colours fused together and then pulled and shaped.

Horsham Museum has plenty of examples to view and other archaeology on show includes prehistoric implements and arrow heads, many found locally, along with several fascinating fossils.
