History of two Horsham Libraries – slideshow

A recent social media post that Horsham Museum & Art Gallery put up proved very popular!

It was of the old town library that stood in North Street for many years.

The former library in North Street.

It was the first county-run public library, built in 1956, on the site of a couple of old cottages.

It was warmly welcomed by the people of Horsham, although there were some critics of the design!

This library lasted until 1991 when a new and much larger building was built in Lower Tanbridge Way, as part of the town redevelopment.

Our slideshow provides a pictorial look down the years until the new library was opened. When the Forum was built the small roundabout was removed and Sainsbury’s now stands behind the building.
