A veritable feast at the Christ’s Hospital Verrio Tour

What a wonderful experience at Christ’s Hospital as a group of Friends went on the famous Verrio* Tour on Monday, May 19, writes Pam French.

The weather turned warm and sunny just as the tour started, so sitting outside listening to and watching the band playing whilst the students marched into lunch was extremely pleasant. The old traditions still hold – although the number of days this activity takes place has reduced to four days a week. Luckily, one of these is a Monday.

After the band had disappeared we were introduced to our tour guides. These are all students who volunteer for the role – ours were under the leadership of Michael (on right in image). Our guides took us around the school sharing their anecdotes and history, giving us an insight into life inside this famous school.

At the end of the tour we were all very impressed with the sumptious cream tea, which we shared with our student guides.

Our final treat was a visit to the Christ’s Hospital museum, run by Laura and Kerry (with volunteer assistance), tastefully set out so you could easily follow the chronological history of the school.

If you would like to know more about our trip look out for a more in depth article in the Friends’ summer newsletter.

*The tour takes its name from the painting by Antonio Verrio which hangs in the School’s dining hall.
