On this day 32 years ago the Centenary Garden at Horsham Museum & Art Gallery was officially opened.
It was part of the 100th celebrations of Horsham Museum Society which was formed at the same time as the Museum itself.

The Centenary Garden, with the Barn and Blazing Saddles Gallery (plus Willoth the Dragon!), is separate from the Sylvia Standing Garden which was created separately.
Back in 1993 Horsham District Council Chairman Grahame Godwin hoisted a civic reception at the Museum to celebrate the double achievement, plus a plaque was unveiled.
The two-month £25,000 project saw the old garden transformed into a paved area with flower beds and a water feature. It was part of a five-year plan.

The then Museum Society chairman George Coomber commented that the Museum had advanced in leaps and bounds during its lifetime to become probably one of the finest town museums in the South of England.
The gardens, looked after by volunteers, are part of the free admission, open Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm.
