The fascinating history of Nymans Gardens, near Handcross, and the Messel family will be the topic for the Friends’ next talk on Wednesday June 10.
Author and academic John Hilary (pictured below) will be at the Wesley Hall at the London Road Chapel (7.30pm) and his book ‘From Refugees to Royalty – The remarkable story of the Messel family of Nymans’ will form the basis of the evening’s talk.

John pursued a career in the non-governmental sector, rising to become Executive Director of the charity War on Want before moving on to work in Parliament.
He is an Honorary Professor in the School of Politics and International Relations at the University of Nottingham and is one of the Messel family representatives on the National Trust advisory board for Nymans.
John’s reputation as an acclaimed authority on the Messel family is assured, so the evening will be a fascinating one.
Admission to all: £7.50 including refreshments.
