Several hundred people gathered in Horsham Park’s Nature Garden last night for an Eclipse-nic – a chance to view the partial eclipse and have a picnic.
Hosted by Horsham Museum & Art Gallery and Horsham District Council Parks and Countryside team, along with Horsham Astronomy Group (HoAG), the informal gathering proved a great success, with several families bringing picnics (and quite a few pizzas!).
The eclipse was projected (with help from the Museum Friends’ own projector) on to a screen, so those without proper glasses or other viewing objects such as a colander could watch the rare event unfold.
On hand was HoAG member astrophotographer Claire Bradshaw who mingled with the crowd to explain what was happening and provide background information to the eclipse.
Claire (pictured below) currently has her fascinating Astrophotography Trail featured at the Museum. Visitors can learn more about the life cycles of stars while experiencing the captivating photos by Claire from the ground in Horsham.
Photographs are accompanied by objects from Horsham Museum’s own collection which date from the light year distance of each star – the time where the light captured would have left its place of origin.
