Stories behind Museum paintings revealed at Friends’ next talk

There’s tragedy behind this lovely oil painting of a young (5-6 years old) Victor St George de la Rue, who resided with his parents, Sir Evelyn Andros de la Rue, 2nd Baronet, and Mary Violet Francklin, at The Normans in Rusper.

The painting is by Margaret Dempster Nisbet (1863–1935), a Scottish painter who painted portraits, landscapes, and miniatures, exhibited professionally for decades, and was married to the better-known Scottish artist Robert Buchan Nisbet (1857–1942).

Hear more of this tragedy in a Friends’ talk titled ‘Oil Paintings in the Horsham Museum Collection’ by Rick Domas, Director of Horsham-based Kate Gallery and a museum cataloguing volunteer.

The talk will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2pm, in the Lounge, Cornerstone Methodist Church, London Road, Horsham.

Admission is £5 and refreshments will be served.
