Friends’ talk this week – Sussex’s Literary Landscapes

The latest talk hosted by the Friends of Horsham Museum & Art Gallery is this Wednesday (September 23).

It starts at 7.45pm in the Wesley Hall at the London Road Chapel where Dr Geoffrey Mead will be talking on the topic Sussex’s Literary Landscapes.

Dr Mead has worked as a tutor with the geography team at the University of Sussex and is a specialist in the study of urban and rural areas in South-East England.

This replaces the original speaker who, due to unforeseen circumstances, had to cancel a few weeks ago.

Geoffrey says: “Sussex has probably more literature devoted to it than any other county. I’ll take extracts from travel writing, diaries, novels, poetry, government reports plus local histories and then link them to their associated images.

“We’ll track county reportage from the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle via Defoe, Cobbett, and Graham Greene right through to the 21st Century.”

Refreshments are available and admission is £7.50 at the door.
